A linguistic survey-the first of its kind-aimed at identifying, preserving and promoting the languages and dialects spoken in Nepal is formally started from the March, 2009. The survey, supported by National Planning Commission, will be carried out by the central department of linguistics at Tribhuvan University. The survey will identify different languages and dialects spoken in Nepal, ascertain the areas these languages are spoken and investigate on the script and writing tradition of the language, according to Dr. Yogendra Prasad Yadav, chief of the linguistics department, TU. Nepal is known for its cultural diversity with more than 100 languages spoken in various parts of the country. |
